Almost anyone who likes to swim will know what the ‘Aussie Crawl’ – there is even a well-known Australian rock band named after the stroke – but what many people don’t know is that the stroke was actually created in the Solomon Islands more than 100 years ago by a local ‘fela’ who didn’t have time to wait for an inter-island ferry and decided swimming would be the fastest way to go.
